Description
Nosara is a beach town situated on the Nicoya Peninsula in Guanacaste Province of Costa Rica. Nosara is one of oldest fishing communities of Costa Rica and even though it is a popular holiday destination, it lacks any direct development and still has its Blue Flag status. The shores have a large population of Olive Ridley and Leatherback Turtles that resulted in a formation of Ostional Wildlife Refuge for the protection of the species. Nosara features three stunning beaches Playa Guiones, Playa Pelada, and Playa Ostional which are renowned for their surfing opportunities. [Nosara Surfing]
Playa Nosara has a great beach break with barreling waves and high peaks breaking left and right over a sandy bottom. It also has a shallow rocky reef that breaks to the left. Playa Pelada is situated on northern side. It has a rocky reef break which is quite inconsistent and crowded. The beach has many tide pools, caves and rocky coves. Playa Pelada is best surfed during northern swells at incoming high tides. North to Playa Nosara, Playa Ostional is found. It is a reef break best surfed at high tides. For a real and challenging wave action, Playa Guiones is a place to be. It boasts one of the most consistent beach breaks in Costa Rica. The waves are smooth and glassy offering an ideal base for novices and intermediate surfers. When the tide is low, the waves become steeper and faster perfect for short boarders while at mid to high tides, the waves are smooth luring plenty of long boarders.
